The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are investigating two significant acts of vandalism that caused thousands of dollars in damages to the St Marys Cement plant in St. Marys, reported local media.
The first incident took place on July 1. Suspects caused damage to multiple pieces of equipment, and also broke into a structure on the property. The damage is estimated in excess of $75,000.
On July 4, an area of brush located on the property was set on fire.
“These were senseless acts of vandalism. In addition to the loss of property and impact on the business, of greatest concern is the fact that these suspects were operating equipment they may have been completely unfamiliar with,” said Staff Sergeant Steph Pilon. “This incident could have resulted in a fatality. This matter will be investigated fully, and the Perth County OPP requests the invaluable assistance of the public to identify those responsible.”
